A man, aged 55, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the tragic death of a 17-year-old girl who was previously reported missing.
The girl was discovered at a residence in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning around 9 am. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she passed away at the scene. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe the victim is Catherine, the missing 17-year-old reported on Saturday. Her family has been notified, and police are providing support to them.
The 55-year-old suspect is currently in police custody, detained on suspicion of murder. The cause of the girl’s death is yet to be determined, and law enforcement is approaching the case with an open mind.
Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker expressed condolences, stating, “Our primary concern is for the family and friends of the deceased young person, who we believe to be Catherine. While a suspect is in custody, our investigative team is exploring multiple leads.”
