María Corina Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize, Trump Denied

Must Read

Donald Trump’s bid for the Nobel Peace Prize was turned down, despite his involvement in brokering a peace agreement in Gaza. Instead, the prestigious award was granted to María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader. The Norwegian Nobel Committee commended Machado for her relentless advocacy for democratic rights in Venezuela and her efforts in transitioning the country from dictatorship to democracy.

Trump, who actively campaigned for the prize, received numerous nominations from global leaders seeking to align themselves with the influential figure. The former president expressed discontent, claiming that his predecessor, Barack Obama, received the award unfairly. Trump’s supporters highlighted his actions in ending multiple conflicts and his role in the Abraham Accords as reasons for his nomination.

However, Trump’s lobbying efforts may have worked against him, along with controversial actions such as the extrajudicial killings linked to drug boats leaving Venezuela, renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War, and deploying troops in U.S. cities. Despite his involvement in facilitating discussions between Israel and Hamas, the committee chose to honor Machado instead.

The Nobel Peace Prize, established in 1901, aims to promote peace initiatives globally. Trump’s name was put forward for the award by Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney for his role in normalizing relations between Israel and Arab states through the Abraham Accords. While Trump and his supporters may view the decision as a snub, the committee emphasized the importance of long-term peace efforts and international cooperation in selecting the laureate.
