Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a technical breach. Post-race inspections revealed that the planks under the McLaren cars were below the required 9mm thickness, indicating an unauthorized ride height. As a consequence, both drivers were excluded from the final race results.
The disqualification significantly impacts the drivers’ championship standings, with Max Verstappen claiming victory in Las Vegas. With Norris and Piastri losing their points, Verstappen now stands level with Piastri and 24 points behind championship leader Norris, setting the stage for an intense final two rounds.
Following the race, both McLaren drivers underwent a lengthy hearing with stewards, lasting into the early hours of the morning. Norris, who finished second after starting on pole, lost ground to Verstappen at the start but managed to regain third place behind George Russell.
Despite his efforts to recover positions, Norris couldn’t catch Verstappen, leaving him vulnerable to challenges from his McLaren teammate and the Red Bull driver in the upcoming races. Prior to the disqualification, Norris expressed disappointment with his performance, acknowledging the team’s lack of pace compared to Red Bull.
Looking ahead, Norris aims to regroup and improve for the upcoming rounds, emphasizing the need for better performance. He plans to take a brief break before focusing on the next race in Qatar.
