Some social media videos shared by the campaign of U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House no longer feature certain Taylor Swift songs. The American superstar’s music had been utilized by these entities over the past week. Both the White House and a representative for Swift have not provided comments on this matter yet.
Despite not addressing Trump lately, Swift publicly supported his Democratic opponent, then Vice-President Kamala Harris, back in 2024. During the 2020 election season, Swift made it clear on social media that she and many others did not support Trump as the president.
Trump has been vocal in his criticism of Swift. Following her endorsement of Harris, he expressed his dislike for the singer on social media. Trump’s posts included comments like “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” and insinuated that Swift’s popularity had waned after he expressed his disdain for her.
Several artists, such as Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their music.
On the Trump campaign’s TikTok page, two of Swift’s songs were featured recently, with one video referencing her famous lyrics using captions like “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” In a June video, Trump’s campaign showcased a snippet of Swift’s song from the fictional movie “Toy Story 5,” accompanied by a caption praising Trump’s love for the country and its people.
This isn’t the first time the Trump administration or campaign has incorporated Swift’s music into their content in recent months. For instance, a video posted in April by the White House featured Swift’s track “High Infidelity” and included lyrics from her song that alluded to a specific date. Another TikTok video shared in November highlighted a song from Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl,” using images of the U.S. flag, monuments, and various pictures of Trump.
One particular TikTok video posted by the White House in November gained significant attention on social media and prompted a response from a White House spokesperson, explaining that the video was strategically crafted to attract media coverage.
The Trump communication team, known for its active presence on social media, has shared numerous videos featuring popular songs and imagery related to Trump’s policies and actions, including immigration enforcement and military activities.
The removal of Taylor Swift’s songs from these videos comes amidst ongoing discussions surrounding the use of artists’ music in political campaigns and official government communications.
