Teacher Facing Sentencing Dies of Suspected Overdose

A teacher passed away from a suspected drug overdose just before his scheduled sentencing for the brutal killing of his spouse.

James Anderson was due in court to accept a 35-year prison term under a plea agreement following the fatal shooting of his wife, Victoria, in 2023.

However, moments before reaching the courthouse, he experienced a health crisis believed to be linked to an overdose.

Emergency measures, including naloxone administration by a court official, were taken to counter the opioid overdose before he was rushed to a nearby medical facility. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the overdose at approximately 11:05 a.m. on Friday.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office reported, “Shortly after arriving at the court, Anderson faced a medical emergency.” The statement continued, “Naloxone was administered by a court bailiff prior to EMS intervention. He was then transported by the Houston Fire Department to Ben Taub hospital, where he was declared deceased at 11:05 a.m.”

Authorities plan to conduct an autopsy following indications that he had consumed drugs.

The former educator had fatally shot his wife at their residence in Texas with their young child present.

Following the shooting and a distress call from the victim to emergency services, Anderson was apprehended. His wife had phoned 911 seeking help, reporting her husband’s threats, and the call ended abruptly with the sound of a gunshot.

Law enforcement, including SWAT teams, engaged in a five-hour standoff at the couple’s residence before Anderson was arrested, allowing his son to exit the premises during the standoff.

The child was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later discharged.

Upon entering the residence, authorities found Victoria unresponsive with a gunshot wound, and medical responders confirmed her death shortly thereafter.

While the motive for the shooting was unclear, law enforcement noted a history of domestic disturbances at the location.

Anderson, who had been a teacher since 2022 and served as the Special Education Department Chair at Santa Fe Middle School, previously operated a clown business under the aliases ‘Mister Jazzz’ and ‘Mr. Jazzz the Clown’ based on business records.

This incident follows a separate case where an 80-year-old man allegedly entered his neighbor’s home and fatally shot an 11-year-old girl before confessing to also killing his wife.
