Irish sprinter She’s Quality has tragically passed away in a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained during the Breeders’ Cup event in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, trained by Jack Davison in Dunboyne, Co Meath, had achieved notable success with four second-place finishes in Group competitions in 2025, amassing over £250,000 in earnings.
She was considered a contender for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint but faced an early setback as she fell behind the rest of the field shortly after the race began. Jockey Colin Keane decided to halt her race on the back stretch as other horses surged ahead.
Following the incident, veterinarians attended to She’s Quality as she was dismounted and surrounded by screens for evaluation. Breeders’ Cup veterinarian Dr. Scott Hay expressed concern over the filly’s hind leg lameness and arranged for her to be transported to a hospital for further assessment.
Sadly, within 24 hours, Jack Davison announced the heartbreaking news of She’s Quality’s passing due to the pelvic fracture sustained during the race. Despite initial stable conditions after the event, her health deteriorated, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize her.
Davison expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved filly, acknowledging her exceptional talent and the care provided by the stable staff over the years. The Breeders’ Cup also extended condolences to She’s Quality’s connections, recognizing the impact of her loss on the equestrian community.
