The Home Office has shared video footage of the initial group deportations of migrants who arrived in the UK via small boats, as part of an agreement with France.
In the past week, two group flights have repatriated 19 individuals back to France, with the second flight touching down in France earlier today before proceeding to Eastern Europe.
The video from the first group flight captures individuals boarding the plane, their identities concealed.
This action follows the removal of seven individuals from the UK last month under a pact brokered with French President Emmanuel Macron in the summer.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood cautioned those contemplating illegal entry into the UK via small boats to reconsider their plans.
She highlighted the stark contrast with the failed Rwanda initiative by the previous government, which cost £700 million and led to only four voluntary departures from the UK.
As the government faces mounting pressure to address the small boat crisis amid a surge in support for Nigel Farage’s Reform party, Mahmood is expected to adopt a tough stance on safeguarding Britain’s borders.
Mahmood emphasized the necessity to halt perilous crossings that endanger lives and fund criminal organizations, underscoring the efficiency of the current agreement with France compared to past unsuccessful programs.
With deportation flights to France now in progress and increasing, a clear message is being sent to potential illegal entrants that detention and removal await them, urging them to reconsider embarking on such journeys.
Under the UK-France arrangement, asylum seekers crossing the English Channel will be returned to France, while an equivalent number of individuals with valid asylum claims will be permitted to enter the UK.
Additional flights to France under this trial scheme are planned for the upcoming days and weeks.
Nine individuals arrived in the UK from France this week through the newly established legal pathway after undergoing security screenings. According to Home Office data, a total of 18 people have arrived in the UK, while 26 have been repatriated.
