Russia has been actively targeting UK satellites in space on a weekly basis, according to a high-ranking military official. Major General Paul Tedman, head of the UK Space Command, disclosed the extent of Moscow’s efforts to disrupt UK assets. He issued this stark warning while visiting RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire, which houses the UK and US Ballistic Missile Early Warning System.
During his visit, Gen Tedman emphasized that Russia has been making repeated attempts to disrupt the satellites using ground-based systems. He noted, “We’re observing instances where Russian interference is affecting our satellites on a regular basis.”
Gen Tedman elaborated that Russia is closely monitoring and attempting to extract information from the satellites. He mentioned, “They are showing interest in our activities, operating in close proximity. Their satellites are equipped to observe ours and gather data from them.”
Moreover, Gen Tedman drew parallels with other nations’ strategies, such as Donald Trump’s plan to establish a protective shield around the US. He added, “We have committed significant funds to integrated air and missile defense, including a space-oriented approach to safeguarding the UK from threats akin to America’s Golden Dome.”
In a similar vein, Germany’s defense minister recently issued a cautionary statement, highlighting that Russia has been shadowing their military satellites. Boris Pistorius underscored that both Russia and China have rapidly enhanced their space warfare capabilities in recent years.
The minister further warned during a space industry conference in Berlin, “They possess the ability to disrupt satellite operations, disable satellites, manipulate or physically destroy them. Satellite networks are now vulnerable points for modern societies. Targeting them can cripple entire nations. It is evident that future conflicts will extend beyond Earth and will manifest in the realm of outer space.”
