A woman accused of leaving the scene of a deadly accident near Fredericton had her court appearance postponed by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, 27, faces charges related to the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton. She was supposed to choose a trial method in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday but was not present.
The incident involves the man being hit and killed while changing a tire on the shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway near Oromocto. Defense attorney Shane Hill, representing Emily Cochrane, requested a delay for evidence disclosure, leading to the new court date set for September 1 by Judge Lyne Raymond.
Though the victim remains unnamed, authorities mentioned his safety precautions, such as pulling far off the highway, wearing a reflective vest, and activating the vehicle’s hazard lights. The police have not confirmed if Ricketson matches the person of interest identified shortly after the March 19 crash. She was charged nearly four months after the event and is currently not in police custody.
