John Tory, the former Toronto mayor, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the organization’s future direction.
His tenure officially commences on October 1, as per a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. Tory takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.
TIFF also introduced three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
