“Mother, 70, Donates Kidney to Son: Inspiring Story of Love and Hope”

Must Read

A 70-year-old woman generously donated her kidney to her son, who expressed his gratitude by calling her his hero. Gill Raggett, a procurement consultant and social media influencer, made the selfless decision to give her 32-year-old son, Luke, the gift of life despite her age.

Luke, who had been battling polycystic kidney disease since the age of 15, was in need of a transplant due to his deteriorating condition. Fortunately, his mother was found to be a perfect match and was in excellent health, enabling her to donate her kidney shortly after celebrating her 70th birthday in June. Both mother and son are now on the path to recovery and are considering participating in future Transplant Games as avid swimmers.

Following the successful operation, Luke now possesses three kidneys, with his mother’s kidney added to his existing two. The duo decided to share their heartwarming story in conjunction with Organ Donation Week, highlighting the importance of organ donation. Luke, an Instagram influencer with a significant following, expressed his immense gratitude towards his mother for her life-saving gesture.

The family also emphasized the critical need for kidney donors, as there are currently 6,934 individuals waiting for kidney transplants. Gill, a former leisure center receptionist and swimming teacher, shared her experience, encouraging others to consider organ donation to save lives and support loved ones in need.

Kidney Research UK, through the Robert Dangoor Partnership for Living Kidney Donation, offers support and resources for potential donors. The organization aims to raise awareness about the impact of organ donation and urges individuals to explore the possibility of saving lives through this selfless act.
