A woman who had been reported missing by her husband was discovered six years later when the police made a disturbing find “within the walls.”
Tina Satchwell was reported missing by her husband in 2017 while they were residing in County Cork, Ireland. The unsettling case has once again captured the nation’s attention following the airing of a new documentary titled The Trial of Richard Satchwell on Virgin Media One.
Richard Satchwell, Tina’s husband and a truck driver originally from Leicester, feigned ignorance about her whereabouts when he reported her disappearance to the authorities. He claimed that €26,000 in cash savings were also missing from the attic.
Although Tina was last seen in public at a car boot sale on March 19, 2017, Satchwell did not report her missing until March 24, attributing the delay to an argument they had before she supposedly left.
Despite Satchwell’s public pleas for Tina’s return, suspicions were raised by Tina’s childhood friend and niece, Sarah Howard. She questioned Satchwell’s account, particularly concerning the absence of Tina’s beloved dogs when she went missing.
Friends painted a troubling portrait of Satchwell as a controlling husband who isolated Tina after they moved into the Youghal home. Lorraine Howard, Tina’s half-sister, shared her belief that Tina felt trapped in the relationship.
In May of the same year, police began suspecting foul play in Tina’s disappearance, leading to a search of the house and the subsequent discovery of Tina’s remains in October 2023. The investigation revealed that Satchwell had hidden Tina’s body under the stairwell, buried in plastic.
Satchwell was rearrested and claimed self-defense, alleging that Tina had attacked him with a chisel. He confessed to moving her body to a makeshift grave under the stairs after her death.
Following a trial at the Central Criminal Court, Satchwell was found guilty of murder. Despite the closure brought by the verdict, Tina’s family expressed mixed emotions, with Lorraine expressing relief at not knowing the exact circumstances of Tina’s death.
The truth surrounding Tina’s final moments may never be fully unraveled, leaving those close to her with lingering questions and emotional distress.
