“Smaller Mobile Networks Outshine Big Four in Service Quality”

Must Read

A recent report from consumer group Which? reveals that despite the popularity of major mobile networks like EE, Vodafone, Three, and O2, smaller competitors are outperforming them in terms of overall service quality. The report, based on a survey of over 5,000 smartphone users, indicates that lesser-known networks offer better value and customer service.

Which? aimed to assess how well providers meet customer expectations, with the results showing that the well-known “Big Four” networks are trailing behind many smaller rivals. Talkmobile secured the top position in the rankings, followed by Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, and SMARTY. Among the major providers, EE performed the best, ranking ninth, while O2 and Three were among the lowest-rated networks.

Price emerged as a significant factor in the report, with customers on the Big Four networks paying an average of £16 per month for a SIM-only deal, in contrast to just £9 for users on smaller networks. Despite the lower prices, smaller providers often utilize major networks’ infrastructure, ensuring similar signal strength and service quality without the premium cost of a well-known brand.

Switching between providers is simpler than many perceive, with some users able to change networks in as little as 10 minutes. One individual mentioned leaving O2 for SMARTY after a price increase, saving around £200 annually with the new plan.

Natalie Hitchins, Head of Home Products and Services at Which?, emphasized that smaller providers consistently excel in customer service and affordability compared to larger mobile firms. She encouraged customers nearing the end of their contracts to consider switching to providers offering better value. The full rankings from Which? are as follows:

– Talkmobile: 83%
– Tesco Mobile: 81%
– Giffgaff: 79%
– SMARTY: 79%
– Voxi: 79%
– 1p Mobile: 78%

– Asda Mobile: 77%
– EE: 74%
– iD Mobile: 73%
