An offender has been sentenced to jail for assaulting two young girls in a violent incident. Steven Biggs, aged 42, encountered the victims, aged 13 and 14, while they were walking on a residential street. They approached him for a cigarette while he was in his front garden in the early hours of August 4, 2020.
After inviting them inside, Biggs coerced one of the girls into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her. The other girl was forced to stay inside while he proceeded to commit further assaults. The disturbing attacks occurred at a residence on Freemans Way, Deal, in the early morning hours. The Kent Police received a report on September 3, 2020, after one of the victims disclosed the incident to a family member, leading to Biggs’ arrest on November 29, 2020.
Charged with 10 sexual offenses, including three counts of rape, Biggs faced a three-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court where he refused to testify. The jury unanimously found him guilty on September 24, resulting in an 18-year prison sentence. Additionally, he will be subject to sex offender notification requirements indefinitely and a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Linda Gavin described the crime as deeply disturbing, emphasizing Biggs’ violent abuse of the young girls. She praised the victims for their bravery throughout the investigation, highlighting their crucial role in achieving justice. Gavin expressed relief that Biggs, a violent criminal, has been incarcerated, preventing him from harming other potential victims.
