A 27-year-old man named Layonel Ramirez Collado was rescued after spending 38 hours adrift at sea due to his malfunctioning jet ski. Collado had been with friends near Juan Grande in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands when the incident occurred. While trying to retrieve his detached jet ski, he unintentionally drifted further into the sea, leaving his friends on the shore.
Despite a search effort initiated by his companions and subsequent maritime rescue teams, Collado remained elusive until he caught the attention of a passing aircraft on the third day. He was found clinging to his jet ski, dehydrated and sunburnt but conscious, about 15 nautical miles southwest of Arguineguín. Rescuers brought him ashore on a cargo vessel, reporting that he appeared to be in good health with only minor chest discomfort from his time at sea.
Following his ordeal, Collado was taken to San Roque Meloneras Hospital for evaluation. His family expressed relief upon his safe return, with his mother confidently believing in his survival. Despite criticizing the initial search efforts, the family was grateful for Collado’s safe rescue. Collado himself expressed a desire to relax and watch Netflix after his harrowing experience.
